Gloria in Excelsis Deo!
Humor is truly a divine quality! It has the power to instantly alleviate suffering through recontextualization. It has been said that meaning comes from context, and humor allows the context to shift. For example, something challenging might happen—you then say to yourself, “one day we’ll look back and laugh at this, so why not laugh about it now?” Looking at events in your life in a humorous way, when appropriate, can help you see that all of this is transient, all of it is just a passing experience. We need not hang on to anything! Another one: “Why do angels fly? Because they take themselves lightly!” Okay, that one was corny, but you get the point.
When you can look at things from a higher perspective, you will see that it’s really just a game. It’s even been called a “Divine Play” as implied by the Sanskrit term Lila. There is nothing in this world that is not part of that Lila. This is difficult for the mind to comprehend, but as one identifies more with the field of consciousness and less with the mental content of mind, one will see the truth of it—a truth that is gradually and gently revealed as commitment to seeing this reality prevails. Life becomes a humorous dance of juxtapositions, interactions, and misunderstandings.
