Gratitude is synonymous with giving thanks. It is synonymous with the state by which appreciation towards all life arises. There need not be a reason—only to exist is enough to justify the expression of gratitude. Gratitude for this moment. Gratitude for health. Gratitude for merely knowing about the possibility of being thankful.
To cultivate gratitude, one can bring to mind fond memories, relationships, or treasured experiences. New neural pathways are developed which facilitate the entrance into a a state of gratitude. What are you grateful for in your life right now? Or what could you be grateful for if you wanted to be? Make a short list, mental or written, of a few people, qualities, or aspects of your life for which you can feel truly appreciative. Allow yourself to be that feeling as an aspect of your own Self. Notice that when we are thankful, there is no worry.
